Silvia LeMon- Sample Video. 4th graders are learning about the different simple machines. Using the ShowMe app, students took a photo of different tools and determined whether they were 1st class, 2nd class, or 3rd class levers. They then recorded themselves talking about what makes the tool a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd class lever and labeling the different parts (fulcrum, load, effort) of each. The following are links to the ShowMes created by the students. 1st Class Lever 2nd Class Lever 3rd Class Lever Conceptual Framework
Kristen Savastano My regents geometry class was learning about the 6 fundamental loci. (Locations determined by a set of criteria.) Instead of merely presenting the 6 loci to the students, I used the IPADs and GeoBoard to have the students "discover" the 6 ideas on their own through trial and error. This one video I posted shows a few students that understand the concept of loci immediately as well as others that need to play around a bit before they caught on to the topic. http://www.schooltube.com/video/c02927555bce4ba29082

5th grade students used the iPad app Visual Poet to illustrate some of their original poetry by selecting photos from the internet. The lesson started out in the elementary school classroom, and then engaged the students in using the iPads in the iPad cart in the high school.

Description of the lesson- With a limited number of students last week were able to explore the benefits of having access to IPADS. While having a conversation with some students about viruses and how they are perfectly adapted for their function, infection a questions was raised. Could viruses capability of invading, which they have done fore millions of years with negative results, be used is a positive manner. Whenever students hear the terms virus or mutation they often immediately formulate the notion that these two marvels and manipulators of DNA are bad, but is there good hidden beneath all of their destruction. So as a class we decided to focus just on viruses and see if there is a good side to these microscopic capers.
Description of the lesson: Students were given the link to Sparknote.com and asked to create an online account. They were to take an online diagnostic AP World History exam. The exam was 40 questions in 30 minutes and was graded for them. They were able to answer the questions and submit them. The site gave them an itemized breakdown of what was correct an incorrect, so they know what to cincentrate on.
Michelle Grasso: Here is my link to my Scrap It iPad lesson. For this lesson, students were using the Scrap It app to create a scrapbook page based off of our essential question: how does geography affect our identity. Students were given a rubric to help them keep track of what they were expected to accomplish by the end of the period. Students chose 1 region of the world that we have studied and then created a scrapbook page only using pictures to answer our essential question in terms of that region. For homework, students had to comment on each other's Scrap It page.
Description: studentsused the App to list structural similartities between molecules in three groups. From this exercise a definition of isomers was built.
Jackie McGrath Here is my link to the ipad video Lesson overview: Students work in groups of four to research one conspiracy theory surrounding the assassination of President Kenned. They used the IPads (which were more user friendly than the laptops), to look through the evidence for their particular theory the they will be creating a powerpoint, video or other media to convince they rest of class that their theory is correct.
